Data centers that are consuming copious amounts of energy and water are placed in rural areas filled with ethnically minority groups and are affecting their livelihoods. I think there are some use cases where it can be helpful especially for people with disabilities AI can help them be more independant. It can easily get out of control, and we get to the point where AI takes over human jobs, like manufacturing, healthcare and tech jobs. While I do not support the current legal framework (or lack thereof) around AI development and implementation, and I do not support the continued development of LLM general AI at its current pace and with its current goals, I DO support the development of specialized AI tools that genuinely make achievements—say, in protein folding—accessible that were unthinkable before the development of the technology.

Well for starters, the amount of water being used by AI data centers is taking clean drinking water from those in need. We’re killing the planet even faster now. Secondly, it’s not only taking work from real artists but it’s creating dumber people AND horrifyingly real fake images that are used for things like making CP for fun (looking at Grok in particular). Overall just not a good time.
