I recently published an article about Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
Specifically, I wanted to know:
- Does the typical American agree that AGI is possible to build?
- Does the typical American agree that AGI should be built?
- Does the typical American agree that an AGI should have the same rights as a human being?
Briefly, the answers were:
- Yes. Americans agree AGI is possible to build and increasingly so.
- Kinda. Fewer Americans agree that AGI should be built than agree it is possible to build. Agreement is neither (definitively) increasing nor decreasing.
- Not at all. In 2021, Americans disagreed that an AGI should have human rights. In 2023, they disagreed more strongly.

I will soon replicate this study. Stay tuned to this blog to find out how attitudes have changed in 2024!
