WHEREAS, the Akron Pros football team has long been a symbol of tenacity, teamwork, and the indomitable spirit of our great city, earning a storied place in the annals of American football history; and

WHEREAS, the dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment of the players, coaches, and staff of the Akron Pros have culminated in a historic achievement worthy of recognition; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we announce the promotion of the Akron Pros to the National Football League, marking a triumphant return to the league that they helped to pioneer nearly a century ago, when they became the first NFL champions in 1920; and

WHEREAS, this promotion not only highlights the football prowess of the Akron Pros but also reflects the unyielding spirit of the people of Akron, whose support and enthusiasm have been instrumental in this success; and

WHEREAS, the promotion of the Akron Pros to the NFL signifies a revitalization of our city’s football legacy, a legacy deeply rooted in Akron’s vibrant history of innovation, industry, and community pride, from the bustling Goodyear factories to the echoing cheers at League Park;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dullis Pancoucle, Mayor of the City of Akron, do hereby proclaim and celebrate the promotion of the Akron Pros to the National Football League, and call upon all citizens to join in honoring this significant achievement and supporting our team with the same fervor and dedication that have brought us to this proud moment.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Akron shall observe January 2, 2004, as Akron Pros Day, a day of celebration, reflection, and unity, in recognition of this extraordinary accomplishment and in remembrance of our city’s enduring connection to the game of football.
